Astro lighting LTD approached me at Northumbria University to design a complete suite of products which were fresh and innovative for the hotel/hospitality market. The main design constraints stated that the proposed ideas should not be so fashionable that they were only current for a short length of time. I therefore decided to base my ideas around very conventional and functional shapes that ensured the proposed light fittings would produce meaningful amounts of light rather than just decorative glows. By using a tasteful combination of materials including oak and polished copper and steel I was able to produce a very coherent range for my client showing careful attention to detail in an aesthetic manner.
At the end of the project I was awarded the 2nd place prize for my proposed ideas by James Bassant (Design Director Astro Lighting).
